Open call for video submissions · Africa
8–11 February 2027 · CTICC, Cape Town
A short video from you — about your community and mining — could bring you to Mining Indaba 2027, in front of the people who shape the industry.
What this is
Your perspective, where it counts.
Under the umbrella of Community Voices, we are once again inviting people who live in or work closely with mining-affected communities across Africa to share their perspective on video — and to help shape the conversation at the continent's largest mining event.
Whether you are a community leader, an Indigenous representative, a youth or women's representative, a civil society actor, an activist, or an artisanal miner — this is your chance to be heard by the decision-makers, investors and policymakers who will be in the room.
Building on the first two years of the programme, ten people will be selected, fully sponsored, and supported to take part in person.
What to talk about
The theme of Mining Indaba 2027 is Stronger Together: Partnerships in Practice. This year we want to hear the issues, opportunities and challenges you think MI27 should be discussing — drawn from your own experience. Be honest about what needs to change, and hopeful about what's possible. In your video, tell us:
"MI27 is about partnerships in practice. From where you stand, what issues, opportunities and challenges do you most want on the agenda — what needs to change, and what's possible when communities and industry work together?"

Filming your video
You don't need a good camera or any experience. Film in a quiet spot so your voice is clear, hold the phone sideways and steady, and face the light. Clear sound matters far more than a fancy camera. Only film people who've agreed to appear.
Past voices
Where past winners have taken the floor.
Community Voices winners from 2025 and 2026 shared panels with industry leaders, spoke to investors and policymakers, and carried their communities' perspective to the main programme.

Good to know
Questions, answered.
The competition is for Africans from mining-affected communities, living in Africa, aged 18 or older. That includes community leaders, Indigenous representatives, youth and women's representatives, civil society actors, activists, and artisanal and small-scale miners. Sponsored travel covers flights within Africa only, so people living outside the continent aren't eligible for sponsored places.
We don't judge you on production values — a phone video is welcome, and you won't score higher for a fancy camera. But please record at the highest resolution your phone allows, in good light and without background noise, so we can see and hear you clearly. Your submission is judged on content and delivery; good picture and sound simply help your message land.
English or French.
A jury of civil society leaders and past Community Voices participants reviews all eligible entries and selects ten winners, based on the issue you raise and how clearly you bring it to life. Winners are invited to shape the discussion at MI27 — we reserve panel slots for community representatives and run workshops on community rights and ASM.
Flights, accommodation and a daily allowance are arranged and paid for you. A valid passport is a precondition of sponsored travel (South African nationals may use a national ID instead), so check your documents are valid early. We'll support your visa application with the letters you need, but obtaining the visa itself is your responsibility.
You submit as yourself. If you're affiliated with an organisation, you can include a short endorsement letter — it helps, but isn't required for everyone. Download the template (Word) →
